1 loaf of French bread - split length wise
8 slices of cheddar cheese
1 1/2# ground beef
1 egg
1 slice bread chopped fine
1 small onion chopped fine
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
8 tablespoon of ketchup - divided in half
1/2 cup milk
1. Combine last 8 ingredients - set aside.
2. Toast bread in 450 degree oven cut side up on broiler pan until golden and crisp approx. 5 minutes.
3. Top toasted bread evenly with meat mixture - brush with ketchup.
4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, test for doneness. Top with cheese slices, put in oven until cheese melts approx. 3 minutes.
